Reconnecting Our Connection

Suara Indonesia Dance collaborated with performing artists Dedy Satya Amijaya from East Java and Yolngu artist Rosealee Pearson through Reconnecting Our Connection, a movement and dance initiative to reconnect past ties between Australia and Indonesia in 2015. Suara Indonesia Dance conducted traditional dance and music workshops at Yirrkala Community School, Nhulunbuy Primary School, Nhulunbuy High School and Anglicare Northern Territory Gove Peninsula After School Care in northeast Arnhem Land, NT.

This culminated in a final performance with local Yolngu artists and students at the outdoor stage at the Roy Dadaynga Marika Stage, Buku Larrangay Mulka, with a special Welcome Ceremony by Traditional land owners the Rirritjingu followed by local bands. Suara continued this project in 2016 and 2018.

This project was made possible with generous support and funding from the Australia Council for the Arts and Australia Indonesia Institute.
